It all started when…

John Waupsh of The Preservation Project merged with David Haffner of Magnetic Recordings. With similar goals of conserving the under-sung music of the later half of the 20th century, the duo came together to form a nexus of music to serve the needs of musician and music supervisor alike by building a new community.

Sparked from a Golden-era 90s Hip-Hop perspective, refined in the deep funk 45 culture of the late 90s, steeped in rare Soul and Disco of all eras, and ultimately set in the subsequent years of opening and operating one of the nation’s premier all vinyl record shops, “Friends of Sound” in Austin, TX, David’s expertise ranges from gospel, soul, jazz, rock, psych, and funk. He has garnered attention via his work with labels such as, Athens Of The North, Light In The Attic, Truth & Soul, BBE, and Big Crown Records. His extensive knowledge and work with a plethora of obscurities has allowed him to be one of the most trustworthy sources of information for those seeking music from all corners of the world. He has proven to be the tastemaker’s tastemaker.
